Back in it's time Gunbird was a pretty good shooter but how does it compare to the test of time? Well, it's now 2010, that's 14 years after Gunbird's Saturn release and it's still a pretty good shooter. The graphics still look good (not that far off Gunbird 2 to be honest) and the sound still has the same impact as it originally had but it does seem a little basic now thanks to the hordes of maze type vertical shooter‚“. Don't let that put you off however because Gunbird is still a decent blaster in an old school type of way. The only grumble I have is that it's quite easy until you get to the last 2 levels which send you right back to the beginning if you continue. This can be a right bitch if you're playing on the harder level settings since you have no power ups what so ever making it an up hill struggle to find some.

Gunbird is one of those games that's packed full of Japanese humor. You've got the Boss characters, two of which seem to be bumbling idiots plus the end of game boss is a giant......, well, I'll just let you find that out for yourself.

The weapon system in Gunbird varies for each of the 5 characters but basically controls the same. Each character has a rapid fire plus normal and bomb. The bombs range from pretty useless to decent. Nothing is extremely powerful from what I remember.

If you're after a decent Saturn shooter that doesn't consist of the normal space ships and battle cruisers then this is the game to you. How many other shooters let you battle it out in the wild west ?
