SNK’s famous and probably only
samurai based game to spread more than 1 game is back in it’s 4th and
final Saturn outing. Like Samurai Spirits 3 or Samurai Spirits Zankuro
Musouken as it’s called in Japan, Samurai Spirits 4 uses the Saturn’s 1
MBIT Ram cart for character animations. The end result is a game that
looks identical to the Neo Geo or if not identical then that close enough
to make it pretty difficult to tell the difference. The game it’s self is
fun and very hard to play unlike many other 2D fighters out there. Mixing
a nice range of short and long distance attacks. At first Samurai Spirits
seems more hassle than it’s worth but once you learn the controls you’ll
find yourself enjoying the game more and more. The audio also adds to the
experience. Most stages don’t have any back ground music as such. There is
a tune played in the background but it’s not what I’d call background
music. It’s more of an obscure twanging on a Japanese Koto along with some
very nice sound effects of the wind, sea, fire burning etc.
