The Saturn has it's fair share of RPGs with many of them being crap based on anime licenses. Fortunately Farland Saga, the second in the series isn't like those. Made by T.G.L. who are quite well known for their anime style cut scenes as seen in games such as Steam Hearts and Advanced V.G. have produced a very funny, enjoyable RPG.

All cut scenes or main anime sections in this game are produced in T.G.L.'s classic style with a good amount of comedy thrown in. These sections look very nice and really add to the overall appeal of the game. The actual game map also looks good but there is a major problem. The character sprites while nice really clash with the backgrounds. This results in some pretty messy looking sprites at times. I don't know whether it's the colour pallet T.G.L. have used or the fact that the characters have this ugly mesh shadow under them, which makes them look a bit on the messy side. Apart from that the game is really enjoyable and a breath of fresh air. There are many Japanese anime based RPGs that try to be funny but fail miserably however Farland Saga manages to be funny and enjoyable at the same time.

If you feel up to the challenge of playing a Japanese RPG then grab yourself a copy of Farland Saga.
