Crows is pretty much one of those unheard of games that sell for loads of money. So what type of game is it? Hmm, Athena, the makers describe it as Battle Action for Sega Saturn. This of course gives you the impression of real hard core fighting action. What you get though is super deformed Japanese hard knocks that look more comical than anything else. The game it's self is ok but nothing great. It's never going to rank in the top 10 best beat'em ups of the era.

The main problem with Crows is the collision detection. Most of the time you have to be pixel for pixel perfect to actually pick anything up or attack an enemy. Now good collision detection is important but when it's as fine as this it can be quite annoying. Another problem that Crows has is a lack of variety. Most of the levels are pretty much the same with pretty much the same bad guys to kill. It's also quite strange the way is works. There are 4 characters to choose from but only two are selectable at first. After completing one of the selectable characters rounds against his rival gang you are presented with the option to select one of the other two.

Another problem that Crows has which I guess isn't going to kill the game but still a pain is that you can't walk when you pick up items to throw at the bad guys. This is a big mistake since it makes it very difficult and annoying when you just want to throw something at another character.  I have no idea why Athena decided on this system.

Still, even after bitching quite a lot about Crows, it's actually a game I've been trying to get for quite some time and yes I knew what it was like. There's just something about it that drawers me towards it. It's by no means the worst scrolling fighter out there but then again it's by no means the best.
