Hmm, the case describes this game as an interactive SF Simulation. In other words it's a war simulation in space and quite a nice one at that. Just like most war simulations that come from Japan this one doesn't particularly look that pretty when you battle however, the scenes in between the battles are full of lovely CG renders and anime sequences. Over all it's quite a nice package and not totally impossible to pick up if you're a none Japanese speaker. You may be better off checking out the sequel though over this one.
