The Saturn isn't exactly spoilt for 3D Fighters but finding the good ones amongst all the crap is pretty difficult. So here I bring you Goiken Muyou from EX Sega Virtua Fighter programmers. The story behind this game goes that part of the Virtua Fighter team at Sega wanted to make another 3D fighter for the Saturn after completing Virtua Fighter 2 but Sega said no.  So these programmers went away to make the game on their own and Goiken Muyou Anarchy in the Nippon was born.

This is a beautiful game with high resolution textures and characters with facial detail that put Virtua Fighter 2 to shame. The back drops are mostly in 2D like Virtua Fighter 2 but one does feature a 3D fence around the stage sort of like Sega's Last Bronx but in this game it doesn't flicker like hell or vanish. The characters are well built and fairly ranged in skills. The game plays pretty much like Virtua Fighter 2 but no where near as serious. Some of the characters have funny moves such as running under your legs then sticking their fingers up your arse. This of course is pretty much bizarre behavior in the UK where I'm from but in Japan it's quite normal for boys to try and stick their fingers up other peoples arses or try to grab their dicks. The Japanese are very strange people.

Anyway, all you need to know is that the game doesn't take it's self as serious as other 3D Saturn fighters. Each character also has a wide array of moves that will take you quite some time to learn. The programmers really have put quite a lot in to this game. As well as having many characters including 4 of the programmers, Goiken Muyou also has many different play modes to keep you entertained plus a very nice character edit mode which enables you to make your very own character (using the character models they give you of course). There are also loads of different options for you to play around with but unfortunately for most people who don't know Japanese, every bit of text in the game is written in kanji. I have no idea why the programmers went for this option but they have. Still, I'm sure there's a few translations out there for the options.

Overall Goiken Muyou is a very nice 3D fighter for the Saturn. It does have one problem though. If you choose the young school girl character then the game will flicker like mad. Choose two school girl characters and you can expect to see some pretty nasty polygon erasing. Still apart from that 1 character messing up the game it's well worth buying.
