Now here is a novel idea or sort of for a puzzle game. Make it an interactive animation. The game is filled with cut scenes from the anime to keep fans of the series happy. They quality of the FMV is ok but nothing too great. The actual game is quite interesting by how they've done it. I’ll try to describe it as best as I can. The playing screen is split in to two playing fields just like Puyo Puyo or many other puzzle games out there. This background is sectioned up in to nine squares with an animation running in the background. The pieces that you must place in to the background are cubs, hence the name Cube Battler. These cube all have a different part of the background animation running on them in colour. There are six sides to choose from. It's then up to you to match these with the background. It all sounds easy but the problem is that everything is constantly moving so it can be a bit difficult at times to match up the correct cube.

All in all Cube Battler is a nice puzzle game but nothing that special to rank it up there with the best, Puyo Puyo or Puzzle Fighter. Still, if you are looking for a puzzler that diverts from the normal look then maybe this is something for you.

The version I have is apparently a limited edition according to the spine card. It features a 1997 limited edition calendar under the CD tray. Looks more like cheap promotion work for the woman featured on it to me. Oh and a nice colour printed CD.
