The humans constructed a new world
called "CYBER-NET". They transformed their bodies and consciousness into
data and "dived" into the cybernetic world. In the cybernetic world
constructed by the computer, all the events existed the same as in the
real world. Love, hatred and of course, the crimes. The leading
character "SERGE" belonged to the special unit "BLUE METAL" who dived
into the cybernetic network to completely destroy the murderous virus
which had turned up unexpectedly. But the unit were given a deadly
crushing and SERGE'S brother "LEON" went missing in the battle. SERGE
made the specialized cybernetic police search for him and to settle the
virus case............ The hybrid sensation complicates between reality
and cybernetic space. The story develops quickly with suspense. What is
the mystery in the "VIRUS" ? It's up to you to find out.
VIRUS is a 3 disc cyber punk adventure from Hudson. It's best described
as a sort of Policenauts crossed with the Matrix (of
course the Matrix didn't exist when this game was made). The game
is beautifully presented in both visual and audio. Hudson really went to
town on this title drafting in some talented names from the Japanese art
and music scenes. The opening title music is by the J-Pop group Favorite
Blue titled True Gate. Some of the cyborg
robot type creatures designed by Yasushi Nirasawa look very similar to
the BOOMERS or VOOMERS are they were called in the English language
version of Bubblegum Crisis. Very nice indeed.
To play Virus you take control of our hero and hereon Serge and Erika.
Together they must solve puzzles by finding clues from talking to the
inhabitance of the cyber world. This is all done in
such style from beautiful stills, CG renders and anime cut scenes. I
sure hope that this game sold well because Hudson have put so much in to
it.
The game unfortunately is unplayable to those without knowledge of the
Japanese language. Saying that, I did manage to get to disc two, 6 years
ago when I first tried to play this game. Back then my Japanese was
almost none existent. If you are open minded then take the plunge and
get yourself a copy of Virus. You'll be pleasantly surprised at it's
quality. To those of us who can understand Japanese, get yourself a copy
of Virus now. You won't be disappointed. |
