In the year 2010, mankind made it's first great advance into space with the completion of the first human space colony "Beyond Coast". Three years later, 5 policemen, charged with the responsibility of maintaining the security of these colonists, arrive on the "Beyond Coast". Getse Backer, Joseph Sadaoki Tokugawa, Salvatore Toscanini, Ed Brown and Jonathan Ingram. These 5 policemen, the Earth's elite, formed a new force of Space Police know as "Policenauts". And now you know why the game is called Policenauts (^o^). Policenauts is the follow up to Konami's cult hit, Snatcher. sadly Snatcher only ever appeared on one format in English and that was Sega's Mega CD. Even worse though is that Konami's Policenauts has never been translated in to English making it one of the most sort after conversions to span across many platforms. The game has you playing the role of Jonathan Ingram who returns to Earth and becomes a Private Investigator, after being frozen in space for the past 25 years. He is reluctantly drawn back to Beyond Coast when his ex-wife's comes to him for help but ends up getting blown up just after asking Jonathan for his help in finding her new husband who has gone missing. From here Jonathan is on a mission to find who ever killed his ex-wife and find her new husband. The art used in Policenauts is fantastic, helping to give that futuristic cyber punk image. The quality of the anime cut scenes are just as good as those found on anime that you'd see on TV. All the art was produced by AIC studios, who are responsible for many great animations from Japan.
The Saturn version of Policenauts is by far the best version released. It comes in a black plastic slip case with a Policenauts pictures book. Not only does the book feature all sorts of art from the game but also two cels from the animation and two sets of stickers. One of which I stuck all over my Saturn gun to make playing Policenauts even more enjoyable. Yeah, that's right, I was sad back in 1996.
