Many people say that Digital Dance mix was a test program to see how detailed AM2 could make a 3D polygon character look in real time. The reason for this research was to aid them in the making of Virtua Fighter 3 for the Saturn. So in a way we could take Digital Dance Mix as a beta test for Saturn Virtua Fighter 3 which never did see the light of day even though it was fully completed twice using two different graphic engines. Anyway, enough of that. Let's get down to the game in question.

Digital Dance Mix Volume 1 features Namie Amuro who was once a massive pop idol in Japan.  Namie Amuro is still going to this day (2010) unfortunately. I say unfortunately because her style and music have changed dramatically for the worse since her earlier days.

You may have noticed that this is Digital Dance Mix Volume 1.  It looks as if AM2 intended to make more of these Digital Dance Mix discs however no others were ever mentioned for release.  Likely candidates probably would have been MAX, T.R.F., Every Little Thing or Speed.

So what do you actually do on Digital Dance Mix? Well not much really. The main part of the disc is to watch Namie Amuro or should I say a very well made super Hi-rez polygon model of Namie Amuro dance around to two of her hit songs. While Namie is dancing you are able to change the backgrounds to some crazy psychedelic ones as well as add extra dancers and control the camera and lighting. All of this can be recorded in real time then played back as a pop video. This can be great fun and last you much longer than you may think. Other goodies on the disc are a few mini games such as a maze game, puzzle game, a card matching game and a copy the dance moves game. Let's not forget the obligatory Karaoke mode and full screen and very nice quality FMV music videos.

If you can find Digital Dance Mix cheap then make sure you pick up a copy. You won't be disappointed at this quirky tech' demo of a game.
