Have you ever wanted to create your very own 2D shooter? Yes? Well now's your chance with Athena's Dezaemon 2. The original Dezaemon was on the Super Famicom but had some restrictions due to memory size. Thankfully the Saturn version doesn't have that problem thanks to the Saturn's massive sized memory cards. With Dezaemon 2 you can create your very own 2D vertical or horizontal scrolling shooters. Everything can be produced by yourself from the background and sprites to the in-game music and title screen. You have the choice of building everything by hand or by selecting some of the templates used within the game. The only grumble I have about Dezeamon 2 is that Athena didn't bother to program in transparencies for the weapons even though you can use transparencies for the backgrounds. Very annoying indeed. Apart from that everything is great. The interface is user friendly and easy to get to grips with. There is a little bit of Japanese text however most options are icon driven so even someone with no skills in reading Japanese can get along fine. There are also three built in games being Bio Metal Gust which is a cut down version of the classic Super Famicom shooter released by Athena. Ramsie, which is a vertical mummy themed shooter and finally a pre-rendered 3D sprite based game called Daioh P! Which is a parody of the built in game featured on the Super Famicom version of Dezeamon. Oh, almost forgot to mention that Dezeamon 2 is compatible with the Saturn mouse.
