Burning Rangers has got to be without a doubt the most visually impressive Saturn Game out there. Sonic Team apparently used a new method of programming for Burning Rangers that allowed the Saturn's sound processors to calculate some of the geometry for the special effects used in this game while the main two CPUs could be used to generate the areas.  How true this s I don't know but that's the rumour.

Burning Rangers features massive transparent explosions, great water effects, light sourcing and shading as well as complex designed levels.  This is all great but what type of game is Burning Rangers? Well, it's sort of a fire fighting game set in space, as if you haven't guessed. You play as one of the five members of the Burning Rangers team completing tasks that will allow you to progress further in to the level to extinguish the main source of the explosions. At times you must work in teams by taking control of other characters to get through the levels. Even when you are not controlling the other characters you must still pay attention to them since they will guide you through the level with voice communication.

As well as the main game, Burning Rangers also has a nice little space racing section that has you flying at high speeds down what looks like a space sewer. Sort of like what you see on Matrix Reloaded. There are also many other little bonuses to Burning Rangers such as receiving mails from the crew and people who you rescue from the fires. I only wish that Sonic Team had made a sequel to Burning Rangers for Dreamcast. While the Saturn version is amazing and pushes the Saturn to new heights. It still looks as if Sonic Team wanted to add so much more but couldn't due to hardware restrictions.

The Japanese version of Burning Rangers comes with a cool mini CD Single featuring 3 tracks from the game. 1.Burning Hearts (opening Theme) 2.We Are Burning Rangers (Burning Rangers Theme) 3.I Just Smile (Ending
