Here's something you don't see every day, a Japanese version Die Hard Trilogy released by Sega themselves. So, is this the same game as the western Sega released Die Hard Arcade? The answer to that is no. This is the poor attempt at making a good games based upon a movie license. While the idea for a Die Hard Trilogy game is nice it just doesn't work or at least not in the way Cinergi have put this game together. Read on and find out why.

DIE HARD - OK, Die Hard has you running around Nakatomi Plaza just like in the move but unlike the movie this consists of 20 stages that all play and look very similar. To add to the insult of boring scenery, the controls are very awkward and lead to you being stuck or killed many a time.  I mean, how hard can it be to make an overhead perspective game control well?  It's been done a million times much better than this effort.

DIE HARD 2 / DIE HARDER - OK, this is more promising than the 1st part of the game. It's played as a type of Virtua Cop rip off having you blast the bad guys away with the Sega Light Gun or Sega Mouse or even the standard controller. The problem here is that the camera moves in the most unrealistic fashion ever. Add the choppy frame rates and low resolution textures and you have yourself one hell of an ugly looking game. I quite liked the digitized heads on the characters though.  Not because they look good but for their comical nature.  However they're not meant to be comical.

DIE HARD 3 / DIE WITH A VENGEANCE - Oh dear. Things are not getting any better. Die Hard 3 is a race against time to disarm the bombs left by our friendly terrorist Simon Grusberg (Hope that's spelt right). To be honest this is probably the most frustrating out of all games on the disc. The car that you must drive has the worst handling ever and if that wasn't bad enough the city area is very hard to navigate aound.

So there you have it. Surprisingly the Saturn version isn't that much worse than the PlayStation version for visuals or playability. Makes you wonder why this was a Christmas hit on the PlayStation, doesn't it?  It is true though.  I always bitch about Saturn versions of PlayStation games being crap and even though most of the time the Saturn conversions do look worse they play just like the PlayStation originals.  Yet most of these PlayStation games are so dull it really amazes me the amount of crap the casual gamer would buy for the system just because of the name or developer.
