Next King - The Eternal Kingdom of Love (to use the English title) starts off with a very nice animated intro making you believe that you are about to start yet another Japanese adventure love simulation however it soon turns out to be another board game on a console.

What is it with the Japanese and their console board games? Is it because they just don't have enough space in their homes to set up a real one? I don't think so because my home in Japan has plenty of space and I don't live in some over sized house either. So maybe it's just because they can't be bothered to set up a real board game due to the time it takes? Probably, or maybe it's because the type of person who would play a consoled board game just has no friends so this is the only way they can really play one. Or could it be that you can do more exciting things on a console board game than a real one?

Hmm, what ever the reason is, it must work otherwise there wouldn't be so many of these games on consoles. Anyway, how does Next King compare to the rest of the crowd? Well, to be honest apart from the nice introduction with vocal song it really doesn't differ that much from the crowd. That's not to say it's a bad game (if you can understand Japanese) but it's not really worth searching for over anything else. Looks nice, rules are understandable and has lots of voice acting but don't most of them.

This special edition is basically the same as the regular edition but comes with a lovely CD Single containing the opening animation theme music.
