Mechwarrior 2 is a not a game I'd expect to find on the Saturn or to be any good on a Saturn. Well Mechwarrior 2 is on the Saturn and is in fact surprisingly playable. The programmers have gone for sprite scaling style sky and land just like Game Arts did with Gungriffon making an infinite draw distance. The actual buildings, objects and mechs are all polygon built and have a very far draw distant but do suffer from what I like to call magical covers. What this means is that when you are close to some objects their textures will change for no apparent reason. This is quite common for games when they use low resolution textures for items far away then replace them with higher resolution textures when the item comes closer to the screen. In Mechwarrior 2 though they will change when you are right next to them. There isn't much of a pop up issue though so that's good news. Control wise things are a bit fiddly at first but you'll soon become accustom to the controls as long as you take part in the training mode. It's just a shame that this game isn't online compatible. It would have been great fun to battle against mates with custom Mechs. The in-game missions are pretty good though so it should keep most people busy for quite some time.
