A very interesting sample disc, is this. In fact you could go as far as calling it a beta. The controls are completely different from the final game and rightly so. The controls in this sample are awful. The L & R triggers are used to speed up and slow down the dragon while flying instead of performing the roll (Which can't be done in this version) and freezing the speed gauge so that you can release the B button which is used for speed in the final game. The D- Pad still controls the direction in which you fly but it just doesn't feel right plus you can't really get a nice straight view down the flight path.

The game starts with the intro movie that we are all accustom to from the retail game followed by a different title screen. After pressing the start button we are taken to a new movie that I'm pretty sure isn't in the retail version. This new movie tell s the story of Azel as Edge is talking to another guy near a camp fire.

The actual "gaming" part of the game takes place after Edge has escaped from the cave he was trapped in. As you fly through the mountains you are attacked by enemies pretty much just like the final game but unlike the final game you're lucky to progress more than ten seconds without being attacked again. During the battles red bars appear at the top and bottom of the screen in a sort of wide screen effect. These appear black in the final game and are used to block out the radar and stats in order to give a much more cinematic feel to the battles. The red bars in this sample however don't cover the radar making things look quite unfinished. After a few battles you finally come to the sub boss (The sort of floating octopus thing). After killing that you directly go to the final boss of the 1st mountain stage. You get to see the real time cut scene as it chases a guy down a narrow stone bridge then on to the battle. Once the battle is complete we head straight back to the continuation of the opening movie. After that the game ends.

A nice feature about this sample is that you can morph your dragon in to any form right from the beginning plus you're well equipped with magic and items.
