With the likes of EA owning the crown when it comes to pretty much all sport games even though they play like crap most of the time, it's going to be pretty hard for someone like Radical Ent' (who mostly make crap as well) to compete. Surprisingly though NHL Power Pay isn't all that bad at first glance. Movement is smooth with no hints of slowdown making the game actually seem like a great contender. The graphics are also decent enough with full polygon players and solid looking ice rink. You even have some decent commentary as well. However this is where the good points end.

The main problem with NHL Power Play is the piss poor computer AI. Many a time you find yourself with nobody to pass to or if you do managed to find someone they'll more likely than not lose the bloody puck straight away. Another annoying aspect of the AI is the auto player select. I found myself looking for the guy I wanted to control most of the time. Just imagine that my team smacks the puck right down to the apposing team's goal yet the player that I control is still over the other side of the rink!

It really is a shame that Radical Ent' didn't sort out the AI on this game. If they did this would have been a pretty nice little Ice Hockey game. After all it's got the looks, loads of options and best of all it's not by Electronic Arts.
