Shoeisha are well known for their
games looking a bit on the cheap side. It comes as a surprise then that
Bouken Katsugeki Mono Mono actually looks pretty detailed in the way
you'd expect an RPG from a major company such as Sega, Capcom or Konami
to look. Characters even have voiceovers which is always a good sigh of
pushing the boat.
So the game starts and everything is looking fine is not a little stiff
due to the lack of animation in the backgrounds. Still, not too bad.
It's not until you reach the first battle scene does the cheapness rear
it's ugly head. You see the battle are done in real time like a side
scrolling beat'em up. The problem in this game though is that the
animation is practically none existent. Add in sluggish controls and you
have yourself yet another cheap effort from Shoeisha. This is a real
shame because the game has great potential but these battle scenes
really do put me off.
If you can put up with the poor battle sections then you'll probably
enjoy this game even with it's lack of background animation. As for me,
I'm just too fussy these days. |
