No, your eyes are not deceiving
you ! Yes, Genso Suikoden was released on the Saturn a whopping 3 years
after the PlayStation original. So what's new about this Saturn version?
Well, it does feature a brand new beautiful animated introduction which
thankfully is running in True Motion and as we all know, Konami's use of
True Motion is very good ! Graphic wise it's on par with the PlayStation
original apart from a few changes in colour here and there for the
better. Loading I'd say was quicker on the Saturn version but usually
that is the case anyway.
So what is Genso Suikoden all about? Well, it's set in a fantasy world
resembling imperial China, the game follows the exploits of a young man
that you must name. He is a skilled quarterstaff fighter and son of an
imperial general who soon learns that he is destined to be the "Tenkai
Star", a prophesied hero that will unite 108 Stars of Destiny to bring
about a new age of prosperity. McDohl acquires the Rune of Life and
Death, or "Soul Eater," which grants him great power at a terrible
price, from his friend Ted. The Rune of Life and Death is one of the 27
True Runes.
The primary opposition during the course of the game is the Scarlet Moon
Empire. Once a fair and just society, now a corrupt ruling body that
imposes its will on everyone, dealing out harsh edicts and making life
miserable for those who dared to be born low. With McDohl in command of
the Liberation Army, a rebel force that seeks to bring down the Scarlet
Moon Empire, he must gather a force strong enough to oppose them, and
bring peace to the people of the land.
In total there are a whopping 108 characters that you can recruit
throughout your adventure, so you'll never be short on people to join in
your quest!! Genso Suikoden is a wonderful RPG that all Saturn owners
must get. There are loads of guides on the net for it as well so the
language barrier shouldn't be much of a problem.
