What a great
shooter this is and here I was thinking it was a really poor game after
seeing a video of it many years ago when it was originally released.
True that the visuals in Wolf Fang SS are not what I'd call Saturn
quality but they're not that bad. At times the screen can be jam packed
with enemies without the slightest hint of slow down.
For those who don't know, Wolf Fang is the sequel to Skull Fang which is
the sequel to Vapor Trail. Why Wolf Fang consists of robots instead of
fighter jets I don't know but who cares? The robot that you control has
over 60 different builds and weapon types thanks to the ability to chose
your very own body, arm and leg combinations. Don't worry though if you
can't be bothered with all that, there are 4 pre-made robots which are
pretty effective.
Not only is the Saturn version of Wolf Fang pretty much arcade perfect
but Xing have thrown in a special Saturn mode, new soundtrack, loads of
speech and CG intro. But wait ! You can actually mix the original and
Saturn modes together !! So you could play the original mode with the
Saturn mode's speech or in my case I play the Saturn mode with the
original soundtrack and no speech since you can't skip it at times. Now
add the option to alter almost any aspect in the game from amount of
energy you have to how fast the enemy bullets come at you, and you have
yourself one great blaster that's well worth checking out. The problem
with Wolf Fang SS though is that it's not that cheap. Be expected to pay
about the same as you would for the likes of Battle Garegga or Hyper
Dual. |
