More shooting action here from Data East. Skull Fang in case you didn't know is the follow up to Vapor Trail, otherwise known as Kuhga: Operation Code 'Vapor Trail' in Japan. Ifm always in two frames of mind about Skull Fang. Sometimes I think itfs pretty good and other times I think it's actually quite bad. So writing this little review is quite tough. To be honest though, the ship graphics are very odd. Looks like some really piss poor attempt at CG rendering! Add the average to below average background graphics and you have yourself one not so impressive looking shooter. Still games are not about graphics, right? So how does it play? Well, nothing too special to be honest. Weapon wise things are pretty dull but there is one redeeming feature. Well, sort of. You see, most shooters have speed ups but in Skull Fang your ship has a low and high gear just like a car! This mostly used during boss battles to allow the enemy ship to fly along side of you. It's a great idea but in reality quite a pain in the arse to use. There is also a force field that you can activate allowing you to ram the enemy but again it's more of a chore than of any particular use.

Over all Skull Fang isn't a great shooter nor a really bad shooter. If you have all the other shooters you could possibly want then maybe try it out just for the sake of it. If you're looking at entering the world of Saturn shooters then pass on this and go for other affordable shooters such as Layer Section, Sokyugurentai or Darius Gaiden.
