Road Rash was a smash hit on the Mega Drive back in the 16 bit days and even made an appearance on the SNES but like all SNES games ported from the Mega Drive, it just wasnft as good despite looking better. Anyway, once the 3DO came along the Mega Drive and SNES versions of Road Rash just didnft seem the same thanks to the 3DOfs real 3D worlds, real music and video cut scenes. This Saturn version is a port of the 3DO original and while it may have extra features (I donft really know since I never played the 3DO version that much) it looks pretty much the same. However by todayfs standards it does look pretty poor like most Saturn racers. However stuff like Sega Rally and Daytona still manage to impress thanks to the shear amount of action in Daytonafs case or beautiful frame rate in Sega Rallyfs case or excellent playability in the case of both of those titles. This is where Road Rash falls flat on itfs arse! It no longer looks good, takes too long to load, has annoying video clips and worst of all, plays like a wet sack of cack. Yep, Road Rash these days is a dud. In fact I canft see why it was so popular back in itfs day now that I think about it.

The Saturn version and possibly the 3DO and PSX versions of this game have a very bad glitch or maybe itfs better to say sloppy programming. On the city stages itfs possible to walk down a side street where you normally canft see down since the course only points straight and walk right off the map !! Yep, you can actually walk so far to the left or right that the textures on the floor stop.

It may be worth getting Road Rash just for old times sake but donft be expecting anything along the lines of Manx TT for racing thrills.
