They're not wrong calling this the Critical Combat. Critically crap to be exact. Criticom has got to be the worst 3D fighter EVER to appear on the Saturn. It's so bad that it makes FIST seem playable. Yep, this game is bad in almost every respect.

First up lets talk about the way the game plays. Each character has a set of moves that are very difficult to pull off meaning that most of the time you end up doing a feeble weak punch or kick or even nothing at all. What makes it worse is that if you do get a special out the character sometimes automatically goes in to a 3 move combination which can be a right pain in the arse if you are near the end of the ring since you end up falling out. Add the bloody awful direction AI that has you facing in the wrong direction more often than not and you have one awful control system.

Next are the graphics. The CG intros are actually not that bad surprisingly, however the cinipack video quality Kronos have used it pretty bad. The in-game graphics are pretty poor with low coloured backgrounds, messy character textures and pretty poor character models. The frame rate isn't even constant making the game slowdown or speed up at times.

Criticom is just a bad game that you shouldn't even consider buying unless you are a collector. Why oh why are so many US made games of the 80's and 90's so shit? Yeah, I know that the Japanese and Europeans made shite as well but when you actually look at the ratio of good games to bad ones you'll always find the US on top by quite a large margin.  Thank God thinks are different now.
