Elevator Action - Elevator Action Returns to give this game it's true name didn't impress me at first. My first impression when playing this for the first time was “what a load of crap” due to the tinny sprites and 16 bit looking graphics. However, it was this game that taught me never to judge a game on appearances. You see at the time of Elevator Action Returns release, it was the “if it's not 3D then it's shite” age of gaming and yes I was a little guilty of following that trend at the time just like may of you reading this. Anyway, I decided that since I'd forked out for this game I may as well see how “crap” it was. Before I knew it I had been playing it for well in to an hour without realizing it. The tinny sprites didn't bother me at all thanks to the lovely animation but what kept me hooked was the actual game !

The idea of Elevator Action Returns is simple, walk along the corridors entering rooms to disarm bombs or to pick up bonuses while blowing away bad guys, dogs and what looks like a zombie with your gun.  You can even smack enemies in the face with the gun's handle or my personal favourite, lob a hand grenade at them which not only blows up the person you lobbed it at but also any other poor soul that walks in to the flames (^v^). You see, Elevator Action Returns is pure fun all the way thanks to it's simple yet challenging playability. The audio is also  top stuff featuring quality tunes and effects by Zuntata (Taito's sound team)

There are only 5 levels in the game but don't let that put you off. They are all challenging plus you have a choice of 3 characters to try and complete the game with. Personally I think the woman is the most balanced as well as looking the best. Oh, and if you manage to finish Elevator Action Returns you'll be given a secret game to play which is the original 80's Elevator Action !

A great game well worth getting ! But be prepared to pay a pretty penny for it just like all the other games released by Ving.
