The first in the DonPachi series of games which is still going today in 2010. So how has this classic stood up to the test of time? Pretty well in fact ! Yeah the graphics are looking a little small and dated but it still plays one hell of a solid shooter even all these years later. At times the action can become frantic with enemies galore all over the place. You are give a choice of 3 ships to use within the game, all of which have pretty much the same style of fire. The A button gives a single laser style blast that while powerful does slow down your ship. B button is the bomb which changes depending on what weapon you are using and finally there's the C button which is your standard blaster.

There aren't really than many levels in DonPachi, in fact only 5 but you do have to complete the game twice before you get the ending. Modes of play are your standard Arcade mode and Score Attack mode so nothing too outrageous there. What is interesting are the monitor options. There are a few defaults which squash the image down to fit on your TV plus a few full screen modes as well as vertical TV modes but what is nice is the free option that allows you to position the screen in anyway that you'd like. To be honest though all the squashed modes do look crap on a normal TV thanks to ripples in the image.
