One of the better looking western made pinball games for the Saturn but does that mean it's any good? Well, as we all know, the king of Saturn Pinball games are the 2 Digital Pinball titles from Kaze / Meldac. Even Technosoft's Kyuutenkai Fantastic Pinball is quite a big disappointment after their excellent conversion of Naxat's PC Engine classic, Devil Crush (called Devil Crash MD on the Mega Drive). And with pinball games such as Hyper 3D Pinball (not even in real 3D) coming from western developers it's not hard to see why this game is the best looking one.

On the plus side True Pinball does look very nice. It runs in the Saturn's highest resolution plus has some nice effects. But how does it play? Well you can view the game in the same fake 3D view as the Digital Pinball games which makes it look equally on par as far as graphics go. Or you can view it from the top which looks kind of plain really. So it's the 3D view we'll judge this game on. Play wise it's quite solid with quick responsive controls plus up and down tilts as well as the standard left to right tilt. The problem is that the tables are a bit on the dull side. Well, maybe not dull but they're not exactly the most inspiring in the world. This is a real downer because everything else is very well done from the digital score board to the audio. If only Digital Illusions had taken a little more time with the table design then this could have been a real winner. Still it's not a bad pinball game and would be worth checking out if you already own the Digital Pinball games (Last Gladiator and Necronomicon). With it's 4 tables I'm sure you'll get some fun out of it.
