When you buy a Gundam game
it's sort of like gambling because the odds on it being a good
game are very slim indeed. Needless to say I lost the bet when I
picked up this crap. Gundam Z uses the same engine as Macros.
Now while this engine sort of works for Macros it certainly
doesn't work for Gundam Z. The aim of the game is just fly and
shoot what ever nasty looking pre-rendered bad guy comes your
way. Simple really and very dull. You see, there isn't really
that much action in this game and even when there is it's either
too easy or just confusing due to the 3 field plains on which
the game plays on. All in all this is a pretty poor game. The
only good things it's got going for it are the video cut scenes
(if you can watch them) and the music which are both taken from
the anime.
STRANGE VIDEO For some reason Gundam Z has problems playing the movie sections. I've tried this game on a Sega Saturn bios version 1.01 and a Hitachi Hi-Saturn. Both play only the audio from the videos. This is very strange and the first time I've ever encountered such a problem. The movies work fine when played back on a PC using the Saturn's Cinipac movie codec but not on the actual Saturn hardware. Looks like Bandai never did any quality checking with this title which doesn't really surprise me considering how crap it is.
