Unlike all the other crappy 1
on 1 Chinese original fighting games that all use the same game engine,
this effort from Glorysun actually uses an all new game engine or a
seriously rework version of the old one. Or so it seems.
Unlike Soul Calibur, Dragonball, Top Fighter, King of Fighters and so
on, Lord of the Rinds doesn’t use sprites ripped from another game. All
characters and backgrounds seem to be original. This has it’s advantages
when it comes to animation since the programmers no longer have to fit
an existing sprite in to their poor game engine. It also doesn’t give
the appearance of a game put together from leftover crap from other
games.
So The Lord of the Rings looks better animation wise than most other
Chinese fighters but how does it play? Well, we have the standard punch
and kick moves along with specials and supers. All of these moves can be
pulled off with ease thanks to the responsive controls however they’re
not that spectacular to be honest but at least they work. As you’d
expect the game is pretty unbalanced but for a Chinese original it’s not
bad at all.
With a roster of 6 characters you’d expect there to be a maximum of 6
rounds, right? Well, not in a Chinese original game. For some reason you
can come across the same character up to 3 times during a game. I have
no idea why nor have I ever actually finished the game to find out just
how many rounds you have to go through before the end appears.
If you must own a Chinese original 1 on 1 fighter for your Mega Drive
then this is the one to get. It’s no worse than some official games that
were released in Japan.
Just check out that utter
cheap crap plastic used for the cartridge below!
