It's another one of those funny shaped Sunsoft cartridge games. And another one of their on-line VS series. Yes, back in 1990 you could play online with your Mega Drive. Sure it wasn't in the same league as the Saturn, Dreamcast or today's monster consoles such as the 360 but it still worked. As you can tell, Tel Tel Mahjong was a mahjong game that could either be played as any other regular game or over the special dial-up network. Needless to say that it's impossible to play online these days since the service vanished in 1992 but to be honest you wouldn't be missing anything. To connect to another players Mega Drive you and the other player both needed the Mega Modem. Then you dialed in your friends phone number via the games on-screen dialer and waited for their Mega Drive to pick up. Not very convenient but this was back in 1990. In most cases players would have to arrange a meeting time and just hope that each other were connected waiting to play when that time arrived. |
