Released in Japan by Victor (JVC) this vastly improved version of Shadow of the Beast really does make the Western Mega Drive version seem very dated.  The story goes that Victor agreed to release Shadow of the Beast in Japan for the Mega Drive if the game was revamped.  So the game was given a complete make over with more detailed character and enemy graphics and some new background touches.  Not only was the Japanese version changed in the graphical department but also in difficulty area.  The original game was way too hard just like the Amiga original.  So this Japanese version offers more lives and difficulty level settings.
