Do you remember that 2.5D PlayStation Sub Zero game?  If you do then you'll certainly recognize this.  Our lovely Chinese pirates have ported it to the Mega Drive in glorious 2D.  To be honest they've done a sort of decent effort.  Using the Mega Drive's Mortal Kombat character sprites and 2D captures of the PlayStation's backgrounds we have ourselves a side scrolling fighter with platform elements. It all sounds great doesn't it?  But you should know better.  Being produced by the Chinese it's of major low quality.  Many a time Sub Zero won't turn around to face his opponent leaving you no choice but to try and jump over him backwards so that you are able to face him.  There's also some really dodgy animation such as when Sub Zero climbs down a rope.  Seeing that the original Mortal Kombat sprites have no climbing animation what the makers of this game have done is to simply move his arms from an up to down position as he climbs while the rest of his body remains motionless.  Needless to say that this looks hilariously bad.

Even with it's poor animation and dodgy collision detection Mortal Kombat 5 Sub Zero is a welcome change to the really poor 1 on 1 fighters the Chinese original makers produce.  If you're a fan of these unlicensed games this one may just be worth checking out.
