Online VS console games in 1990?  You've got to be mistaking.  Nope, not at all.  Cyberball (Japanese version) on the Mega Drive did indeed have a online VS option.  How good it was is unknown to me since the service has been off line for many years.  I'd take an educated guess that it wouldn't have been that great though since the Mega Drive was using a 14kbps modem.

The game it's self is very basic in appearance but it does have a very nice smooth scrolling pitch that is quite surprising for such an early title.  Sadly, I can't really recommend Cyberball to anyone except the real hard core American Football fan.  There are so many better types of this game available playability wise and in looks.
