I wasn't expecting much from this game having played the Super Famicom version years ago. This Mega Drive version is a straight conversion or should I say a very poor straight conversion of a very poor game. As you may know if you're a regular reader of Segagaga Domain, Bandai aren't exactly known for making great games. Ultraman falls in to this category. Yes, I know it says the game is by ma-ba but I have a very strong feeling that they are in fact Bandai under a different name or a company paid by Bandai to convert their games to the Mega Drive. Anyway, this game is poor. Presentation is last plus there are no options ! From the title screen you go straight to round 1. No introduction or nothing. Graphics are so poor they wouldn't look out of place on a 8bit system. Audio is just as bad. At least there are a few speech or growl samples from the Ultraman series but even they can't save this game. The final nail in the coffin is the playability. The controls feel unresponsive plus you have to press a button to jump! Special moves are preformed by pressing punch and kick together yet I can't figure out how to choose between the different specials available. Another really stupid annoying thing is that you MUST perform a finishing move on the enemy before they die were as the enemy doesn't have to. Talk about unfair. Overall this is a very poor one on one fighter. Avoid at all costs just like EVERY OTHER Ultraman game out there. |
