More Chinese original Mega Drive action with the confusingly named Top Fighter 2000 MK VIII. It's the MK VIII that gets me. I mean is this meant to be Mortal Kombat 8 or what? Anyway, what we have here is yet another 2D 1 on 1 fighter based upon the same engine that all these games seem to use. We've got the usual mix of Capcom and SNK characters to choose from such as Ryu, Geese, Kyo and Ryo but what on earth are Son Goku and Cyclopes doing in there? And if you think that is odd the main two characters of the game are Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali !! I bet you never thought you'd see them two up against a load of video game characters. So how is the actual game? Looking at the screen shots below you'd think it was pretty good. Well, there is a nice introduction and the graphics are pretty and some characters have sort of ok animation however that's were the good points stop. You see, the main problem with this game and EVERY other Chinese original fighter based on this game engine is that they are all so unresponsive. It's as if the movement on the pad for the special moves randomly changes or just doesn't work at times. This is a great shame because if they put some effort in to it these games could have been half decent. But what do you expect from the country of half arsed production values? |
