More tinny Sunsoft box fun for your Mega Drive and possibly one of the best Mega Drive shooters out there.  Rather than bringing Mega Drive users a standard port of the arcade game, Sunsoft went that little further and gave us a whole new game making fantastic use of the Mega Drive's power.  Not only does this look and sound better than the original arcade but also better than any other version of Fantasy Zone available and yes, that includes the Saturn's arcade perfect port.

You see, Sunsoft have done what you may have thought wasn't possible.  They've taken the basic game play elements of the original game then boosted them in every area.  They've even added in a story complete with scaling and rotation graphic effects on a Mega Drive !  Sunsoft have even beefed up the weapons available to buy in the shop however I do have one complaint about the shop.  In the original game it was possible to enter the shop just before a boss battle in order to buy a new laser or something.  In this version the shop only appears half way through the stage making it pretty much impossible to keep any sort of shooting weapon for the boss.  This is only a minor criticism mind you.

Super Fantasy Zone for the Mega Drive is one of my all time favorite Mega Drive shooters that just can't be looked down upon in any way what so ever.  Fantastic game that's well worth tracking down.  Be prepared to spend a fair amount mind you.
