You really have to wonder what was going through Kyugo's head when they made this Mega Drive version of Super Airwolf.  There they have the full Airwolf license which they used quite well in their arcade game but used pretty poorly in this Mega Drive game.  For a start what the hell is that commando guy on the cover got to do with Airwolf?  Why on earth did they use that over an image of the main cast?  The mind boggles.  Anyway, on with the game.  The game has you fighting terrorists throughout the world for a lovely hansom cash reward.  Each mission starts with Ark Angel from the show giving you a briefing on what needs to be done.  From here you can select what weaponry you'd like to equip your helicopter with.  Next you get a pretty cool shot of the Airwolf chopper taking to the skies.

Each level is split in to sections consisting of an overhead shooter featuring the Airwolf helicopter and a ground commando style mission. Ah, so that's why there's a Commando guy on the front cover, (-_-)  The helicopter sections can be extremely annoying at times with enemy projectiles coming at you from nowhere at times it can seem.  The levels are also far too long in my opinion.  Thankfully there are a few restart points along the way.  The commando style sections on the other hand are a bit more entertaining.  Armed with a machinegun and grenades, it's your duty to battle your way through the bad ass terrorists and save the hostages.

Overall, Super Airwolf isn't that bad but I feel a lot more could have been done with the license than just a few digitized shots of the main cast and helicopter.  At least the Airwolf theme tune is present even if it is a bit weak.
