You may know this game under
it’s western disguise of Arnold palmer’s Championship Golf in which you
take control of the aging cubby American golfer. This Japanese version
was released beforehand yet is pretty much the same game apart from a
different attract screen and less music options. It’s also missing Opa
Opa from Fantasy Zone who strangely appears in the western version even
though it’s more likely that Japanese players would recognize it more
than western players.
Game play isn’t that exciting to be honest. The game is very old so of
course it’s not going to play anything like today’s offerings. All your
basic elements are present such as stance, wind direction, terrain and
so on and let’s not forget your set of clubs as well. Unfortunately you
are stuck with the ones that your caddy decided to bring her with no
option to change them. You are also stuck with the same caddy as well !
Then again it is a nice young lady and with Naomichi and Arnold (in the
western version) looking more like old dried up prunes I’m sure they
wouldn’t think change her anyway.
Graphics are ok for the time I guess. Shots are presented from behind
the golfer while the actual ball flight is the typical overhead affair.
Like I said, not bad for the time but there was better around.
Earlier on I mentioned that the western version of this game features
Opa Opa from Fantasy Zone while the Japanese version dose not. Now you
may not think this is such a big deal but if you take over 100 shots on
the western version you get a bonus mini level of the Sega shooter
Fantasy Zone !! Now the Japanese version also has a bonus if you take
over 100 shots on the same course. It’s not as good as a mini level of
Fantasy Zone mind you. Just take a look below the instruction booklet
scans to see what you get.
