You may have seen this in the arcades with it’s cute looks however this Mega Drive version is nothing like the Taito original even though Hot-B did acquire the license from Taito.  This Mega Drive version looses the cutesiness in favor of a more serious look.  This is fine, however with hundreds of shooters being available on the Mega Drive it may have been better to keep the cute look in order to separate it from the masses of other shooters.

What we have here is a pretty average shooter with an interesting theme.  The idea of playing as a insect hybrid out to shoot down all the killer insects is quite nice however with only two different power ups, the same enemy sprites on every level and well pretty dull BGM to be honest, Insector X soon becomes more of a chore to play than fun.
