Possibly the very first real time strategy game, Herzog Zwei from Tecno Soft is just what you'd imagine you'd get from the company that brought us the Thunder Force series as well as other excellent games.

I've yet to really get in to this game so I can't comment much on it apart from let you know that the main idea is to capture bases.  You can play in either a full screen one player mode or a real time split screen two player mode.  And of course the sound track is fantastic as you'd expect from Tecno Soft.
