Have you ever wanted to see a game that looks so bad it’s actually good? If you have then you are probably just as odd as me! The graphics in Wardner No Mori Special are bloody awful (Not as bad as Double Dragon II mind you), so awful in fact that they suit the game. I don’t know why but this crappy look actually makes the game more interesting. The original arcade version looked ok while this Mega Drive version looks more like a Beefed up Master System game with bad art. The game is a scrolling platformer that has you take the role of Wardner who must get back his girl that has been kidnapped by the master of evil (as always). Wardner can jump, climb and fire out err..... fire from his finger tips to help him through the evil forest, haunted house and so on. It’s just as well Wardner has these abilities because the areas are packed full of little demons just itching to get you.

The game is really tough with one hit sending you back to the beginning of the stage. Wardner is also one of those platformers that require you to make almost pixel perfect jumps most of the time. Normally this would result in me switch the game off straight away but in the case of Wardner I perceiver for some odd reason just to see what lies around the next corner. It’s this strange addiction that makes Wardner No Mori Special such a cult classic. Sure, it looks crap and frustrating at some points yet you will always want to see what’s coming up. Well worth checking out.
