This so called “Limited Edition”
is basically the exact same disc that was bundled with the Mega CD on
release in Europe. The names of the games are all European as well, for
example Bare Knuckle is called Streets of Rage and Super Shinobi is
called The Revenge of Shinobi. The other two games, Columns and Golden
Axe both used the same names world wide.
So we basically have a 4 in 1 multi game cartridge on CD. Wow, big deal
you may be thinking but just wait a moment. Golden Axe now features the
arcade’s music score over the weaker Mega Drive version and Columns also
has an all new re-vamped sound track. So there is a little bit of an
improvement over the cartridge versions of these games. Or at least
there is in the audio department. The Revenge of Shinobi seems to be
identical in every way to it’s cartridge version however Streets of Rage
for some odd reason features awful slowdown. I have no idea why this
happens since even a UK Streets of Rage Cartridge running on a Japanese
Mega Drive is fine plus comes up with the Bare Knuckle title screen.
Just what did Sega do to this CD version that messed it up so much?
Even with the messed up Streets of Rage this is still a pretty cool
collection of games and even more so when you consider that this
collection can be picked up for pennies. Well worth adding to any Mega
CD library in my opinion.
