Have you ever longed for the days of simple gaming? If you have then Cosmic Smash could be just the title you are looking for (if you can find it that is). The idea of the game is very similar to the classic Taito game, Arkanoid except that you control a squash player rather than a bat. The idea is to smash your ball against the opposite wall whilst knocking out the blocks. Pretty simple really. There are a few problems to make it a bit more challenging however such as moving blocks, barriers and trick shots. Your character can also perform a variety of special moves to spice up the action quite a bit.

Graphics are simple yet appealing as is the sound. The odd thing is that the main voice speaks in English with a female voice repeating everything in the background in Japanese. The game is laid out as a train map with the main objective being to reach the end with the highest possible score. There’s no real reason to replay the game apart from trying to better your high score just like in the olden days.

Not a game that will appeal to everyone and not a cheap game which is quite upsetting when you consider it was released as a budget title originally. It now cost 3 times or more than its original price.

By the way, the case to this game is a transparent DVD case with a semi transparent inlay cover which is why you can see the instructions behind the main cover.  Looks pretty cool I think.
