More cheap and nasty crap from Capcom. In the early days of the Dreamcast Capcom were throwing all sorts of quick half arsed conversions towards the Dreamcast such as Bio Hazard 2 & 3 and Dino Crisis which are all pure PlayStation conversions. Now while Star Gladiator 2 is an arcade conversion, it’s one from a much less powerful system than the Dreamcast sort of like how Namco’s Soul Calibur was. Now, Namco completely revamped Soul Calibur to bring it up to Dreamcast standards and what a wonderful job they did. Capcom on the other hand have done sod all to improve Star Gladiator 2. Characters look like they have PlayStation quality textures, the floor doesn’t reach in to the background and sometimes you can even see it appear in square sections ! The backgrounds are pure 2D. There doesn’t seem to be any of the Dreamcast’s graphical abilities used at all in this game. Don’t get me wrong, it does look better than a PlayStation game but still well under par for a Dreamcast game.

Star Gladiator 2 is a bit difficult to get in to at first. Unlike other 3D fighting games this one takes quite a bit of practice to become accustom to the controls. Personally I don’t actually like the way it plays at all. I find it quite dull compared to other quality 3D fighters on the Dreamcast. There are quite a fair amount of moves per character plus special attacks and so on but the whole thing seems more effort than it’s worth. If you are looking for a quick fighting fix then get Star Gladiator 2 otherwise look else where.
